Olives, Wine & Culinary from Madrid to Cazorla

Day 1 International flight to Madrid

Depart your gateway of choice and travel to Madrid, Spain

Day 2 Arrive into Madrid

Overnight: Madrid Meals Included: Tapas Dinner

¡Bienvenidos a España! Welcome to Spain!

Enjoy an authentic welcome Tapas Dinner this evening in Madrid. 

Depending on your time of arrival into Madrid, optional tours will be available. 

Day 3 Madrid 

Overnight: Madrid Meals Included: BD

After breakfast, discover Madrid with a guided walking tour, to include the Mercado de San Miguel Market.  

End this day with a Paella-making culinary experience and a Flamenco show.

Day 4 Day trip to Segovia + Protos Winery

Overnight: Madrid Meals Included: B

Explore the exquisite Wine Museum and tour of the Peñafiel Castle – an impressive fortress that was once an important point on the line of defence of the Duero River, for both Christians and Moors, during the 9th and 10th centuries.   

Winery ~ Bodega Protos

After lunch explore Segovia.  It is here that you will see one of the best Roman-era monuments – Segovia’s incredible aqueduct with its 188 arches spanning 16 kilometers! Segovia is also famous for its Alcazar, a beautiful 11th century medieval fort that inspired the design of Disney’s castle.  Tour the Gastronomic Museum to learn more about Spanish food and sample cheese and food specific to the Segovia regionEnd this day with dinner and overnight in Madrid.

Day 5 Cazorla

This morning we depart for Toledo, also known as the ‘City of the Three Religions’ or cultures because for many centuries the Christians, Moors, and the Jews lived together in relative equality and peace. Enjoy your walking tour within the ancient walls and a traditional lunch.  After lunch, continue south to the small hamlet of Guarroman, located in the province of Jaen, founded in the 18th century by King Charles III. It is here that you will learn the art of cheese making. For four generations, this family has been making cheese  in a traditional way and always with great care and passion. Follow the process, from milk to molding to the tasting and understanding why these special cheeses have won many prestitage awards such as Gourmetquesos Championship of the Salon Gourmets as Best Cheese in Spain 2018.

End this day in Cazorla – home of the Vezorla Olive Oil.

Cazorla is steeped in tradition where it’s origins stretch back to 550 BC. Today this beautiful town boasts many natural springs, thick forests, high mountains, rolling hills, narrow streets, grand stone houses with balconies filled with flowers, town squares and many monuments. The ruins of the Santa Maria Church sits in the centre of town, where today many festivities and concerts are held.   After dinner, hop aboard your train to visit La Iruela Anfiteatro for the amazing views of Cazorla. The Castle of La Iruela, is located on top of an abrupt cliff in the Natural Park of the Sierra de Cazorla. Truly beautiful!

Day 6 Cazorla

Today you will explore the Vezorla’s olive grove, where you will learn the entire process of creating the best Olive Oil and see the 3 oldest olive trees in Spain.

The Cazorla Olive

What makes this olive oil so special?  It is the knowledge and dedication of many generations and their experience and the careful selection of olives to be harvested at the optimum moment.  ~  It is the tremendous quality of the grove that differentiate their Extra Virgin Olive Oils from the rest of Spain and the international markets.  ~  But most of all, it is the traditional cultivation of their Royal and Picual olives. 

Did you know… 5 kilos of olives produces only 1 litre of oil  ~  Of the 300 million olive trees in Spain, 1,600,000 belong to the co-operative membership of Cazorla.  ~  Of the 3 olive trees in Spain older than 3000 years, 2 of them are here in Cazorla. 

Celebrate Cazorla with a traditional dinner at our hotel and an evening walk through Old Cazorla to see the Balcón de Zabaleta, Church Ruins at Plaza Vieja. End your day with a Flamenco Dance, being led by Veronica.

Day 7 Cazorla

This morning after a light breakfast, visit the local Farmer’s Market topped off with the famous Spanish Churros. 

These delicious breakfast snacks are freshly made, fried, dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with sugar. A popular Spanish tradition, believed to have been invented by the Spanish shepherds while tending their flocks. Enjoy some free time in town at the local market, with the local meats, fruits and vegetables and spices.  Experience a real Ruta de Tapas ~ similar to bar hopping in Canada where you can try many different samples of appetizers in different bars. 

Day 8 Cazorla to Ubeda and Jaén

After breakfast continue to Ubeda for a tour of Ubeda’s traditional pottery.  Ubeda is located in the high Sierras, within the province of Jaén. An elegant town filled with mansions and Renaissance churches with it’s centuries-old tradition of pottery. Meet the highly talented sculptors/potters who have over the decades, been carving and decorating exquisite pieces of pottery, using Ubeda’s signature moss green glaze. With Arabic origins and its intense green colour, you will find all kinds of pieces ready to ship home. End this day in Jaén, famous for it’s fortresses, including the medieval Santa Catalina Castle.  Tour one of the popular vineyards of Mencia (Men-thee-ah), a popular red grape where over 4,000 acres have been dedicated to producing these special grapes. Aclamaciones!    Overnight in Jaén Parador with a special dinner. 

Day 9 Jaén to Granada

Enjoy your Parador with a relaxing morning.

Continue your adventure to Granada, the former Moorish kingdom, dating from the 13th until the 15th century. Tour the magnificent Alhambra, UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, which includes four groups of buildings, including the Alcazaba built during the 13th century and the oldest part of Alhambra. 

Day 10 Granada to Malaga

Enjoy a relaxing morning in Granada exploring the markets and the Plaza Nueva.

Continue to your Meditteranean hotel for the next three days. Overnight in Malaga, located on the Meditteranean Sea.

 Day 11 Malaga with optional excursion

Free day to explore Malaga.

Optional Excursion # 1:  Gibraltar – The Rock

Today it is off to the British Colony of Gibraltar where the limestone ‘Rock’ stands at 426m-high and on a clear day you can see Africa. Visit St Michael’s Cave, the Apes Den and the Great Siege Tunnel. A small city with so much to see!  Return to your seaside hotel for your last sunset. Ole!

Day 12 Malaga with optional excursion

Free day to explore Malaga before departing for Madrid.

Optional Excursion # 2:  Ronda

Located in Sierra de las Nieves National Park, is famous worldwide for its dramatic steep cliffs, views of the surrounding mountains, and for the deep El Tajo Gorge that has cut Ronda into two. See the 18th century Puente Nuevo ‘new’ bridge, and the Plaza de Espana, made famous by Ernest Hemmingway in “For the Bells Tolls”. Your visit to Ronda will give you the opportunity to experience a cattle ranch of bulls and Andalusian horses, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, surrounded in centuries old Oaks ~ the only theme park dedicated to the brave bull and the Andalusian horse. End this afternoon with a tasting of Ronda Wines and Tapas. Return to Madrid in time for your farewell dinner.

The availability of all services is guaranteed upon confirmation of the first deposit.  Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on weather, road conditions, flight schedules, and hotel availability and the number of travelling participants. Booking Conditions

Applications and Confirmation: ALL Travel Your World documents as 1) Application, 2) signed Waiver & Release, 3) Payment Agreements, and 4) Insurance Waiver Form or request for Insurance must be completed in full and handed in by the due date to ensure your place and confirmation.

All deposits are to be made to Travel Your World as per your Payment Agreement. Your first deposit is non-refundable by TYW.

Late Payments

All payments 1 – 15 days past due will result in a 10% late payment penalty. All payments 16 – 29 days past due will result in a 15% late payment penalty. If the scheduled payment and penalty amount(s) are not received within 30 days from the scheduled payment date, TYW assumes the participant will not be travelling and refunds will be subject to Travel Your World’s cancellation policy. Should the participant still wish to travel on the tour, this must be communicated clearly in a written format to Travel Your World and the full outstanding amount(s) plus penalties must be paid within 24 hours of providing notice.  Please visit for our full Terms & Conditions.

Mandatory Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is not included in your quoted tour package, however, it is mandatory for all TYW customized tours. TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR INSURANCE with Travel Your World International Ltd. and Manulife Insurance,  with the exception of the Visitors Plans that include Emergency Medical Insurance, you must be a resident of Canada and covered under a government health insurance plan for the entire duration of the trip.  

Please note you will NOT eligible for coverage if:
a) you have been advised by a physician not to travel; and/or
b) you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness with less than 6 months to live; and/or
c) you have a kidney condition requiring dialysis; and/or
d) you have used home oxygen during the 12 months prior to the date of application.
